Sweets @ my desk

I logged into my PC at work today to find a mail with this Subject line. One of my colleaugues who was back from his India trip had brought the famous Agra ka petha for all of us.

It took me back to the Wipro days where each Monday we would receive at least one such mail. And on the Mondays that followed long weekends we would have five or six of such. It would so happen that due to the sheer quantity of sweets and snacks, we would have arguments about which ones to open on the next day... :)

Certainly this is being sorely missed here in US. The workplaces in India especially the software companies are more like families with people eager to share their lives with each other through sweets. And others? even more eager to grab them. The reasons and occasions -numerous! Someone's returned from onsite, or is celebrating birthday, someones's got engaged or is blessed with a baby. And the types of sweets? Typical.
Chocolates- Kitkat, 5 Star for birthdays and Hersheys/Snickers from onsite.
Year round supply of Thirupati Prasadam- given the huge South Indian population of my ODC.
Murukku, kela chips or bhakrvadi- after a visit to hometown.

This e-mail always came with another message - "Limited stock. First come, first served." making us rush towards the mail sender's cubicle as soon as its notification popped up on our desktops like flood victims wanting to grab a large share.
